Based on this new invention edison and a team of financial backers developed a new company called the edison electric light company. 1940s the first soft light incandescent bulbs. The light bulb or edison filament lamp as it was known has one loop of carbon filament which glows when a current of electricity passes through it. 1950s quartz glass and halogen light bulb are produced.

The first electric light was made in 1800 by humphry davy an english scientist. Electric arc lighting invented in 1809 was much safer but far too bright for use in a small area. A smaller light was needed and in 1880 thomas edison patented the first commercially viable incandescent light bulb. 1930s the thirties saw the invention of little one time flashbulbs for photography and the fluorescent tanning lamp.

Davy swan and edison. He officially obtained a patent for his version of the light bulb which used a carbon filament on january 27th 1880. In 1850 english chemist joseph swan tackled the cost effectiveness problem of previous inventors and by 1860 he had developed a light bulb that used carbonized. Unfortunately gas produced a flickering light that burned down theaters and homes worldwide.
